Pinky's Journey
Pinky is in trouble. Abandoned by his parents and having lost the grandfather who raised him, dog racing and the community of the track is the only life he knows - but he’s falling through the cracks. He’s gambling with more than money now, and the people around him are running out of patience. He’s on a life long losing streak and can’t outrun his debts anymore. Local gang boss Dempsey has known Pinky since he was a boy, but that won’t stop him from acting. He has until midnight Friday to find the money or he’ll be dead at the bottom of the canal. Pinky’s only option is to place everything he’s got on a single race.
But things get off to a bad start. His girlfriend Amber breaks up with him, worn down by his gambling and drinking. He’s evicted by his landlord, being forced onto the streets. When he finally manages to scrape some money together, he is beaten and robbed, leaving him back where he started. Local busker Moses attempts to pull him back from the edge, but Pinky won’t listen. Desperate, Moses tracks down Pinky’s estranged mother, Donna. She pleads with Dempsey to spare her son’s life, as their history runs deeper than debt. But it isn’t enough. A debt is a debt.
