Pinky's Journey

Pinky is in trouble. Dog racing and the community of the track is the only life he knows but he’s falling through the cracks. He’s a lost soul, abandoned by his parents, and has recently lost the only stable figure in his life - the Grandfather who raised him. Now he’s facing the mess that his life has become and the relationships he’s ruined through his addiction to gambling. He is on a life-long losing streak and his debts have piled up to an unmanageable point following a series of desperate bets at the track. Local gang boss Dempsey has known Pinky since he was a boy, but that won’t stop him from acting. He has until midnight Friday to come up with the money or he will end up dead in the canal. Pinky’s only option is to place everything he’s got on a single race.

But things get off to a bad start. His girlfriend Amber breaks up with him over his gambling, alcoholism and sponging. He is evicted by his landlord and forced onto the streets. When he finally manages to hustle some money together he is beaten up and robbed, leaving him back at square one. The gangsters are watching him and time is running out. A local busker called Moses does his best to steer Pinky on the right path but the gambler refuses to heed the lesson, he’s too far in the grip of his addiction and the self-destructive characteristics that have haunted him his entire life. As a last resort Moses tracks down Pinky’s estranged Mother Donna. She pleads with Dempsey to spare her son’s life, as he, Dempsey, is the boy’s biological Father. But the gang boss refuses. A debt is a debt.
